NEWS 11.12.2024 12.00

As an employer, you may be entitled to training compensation for training that develops your employees’ vocational competence. Apply for training compensation retroactively. If you are applying for compensation for training organised in 2024, submit an application for training compensation on our online service by 31 January 2025.

Training compensation can be granted to the following:

  • associations
  • foundations
  • wellbeing services counties
  • municipalities
  • parishes
  • universities
  • universities of applied sciences
  • some other public sector employees

The requirements for receiving training compensation are that:

  • you have drawn up a training plan, which includes the training, in advance
  • the training is organised by the employer in order to maintain and enhance the employee’s vocational competence
  • the preconditions concerning the length of training are met, and you pay the employee's wages during the training

How to apply for training compensation

Apply for training compensation on our online service for unemployment insurance contributions.

State the following on your training compensation application:

  • the average number of employees
  • the number of training days carrying an entitlement to compensation

Note: Do not append the training plan to the application.

You can find more detailed instructions for calculating the number of training days and submitting an application on our website.

The discontinuation of the training deduction does not affect the training compensation

Parliament has approved a legislative amendment that will discontinue employers’ training deduction from 1 January 2025 onward. Please note that the training compensation and the training deduction are not the same. The discontinuation of the training deduction will not affect the grant of training compensation for 2024.
